Hi list,

I need to extract and ftp from our mainframe to our Oracle server (on Windows) and along with the sign bit (for negative in particular)
BUT - I also need the decimal point !!!!!!

Can DFSORT do both?:

I found SFF and it does the sign bit perfectly (yet I would like the
positive sign omitted if it can be)

Does it work with Packed Decimal fields also ??

I'm still surfing around for more info after I found this SFF by accident today !!!!

Thanks alot

Sorry, but I don't understand what you're asking. Please show examples of your input fields with the relevant values and what you want the output records to look like.

Sorry about the confusion Frank,

Let me point to an earlier post of yours which illustrated what I would like to do with DFSORT:

www.ibmmainframes.com/viewtopic.php?t=1148

I'm trying to port EBCDIC data in PACKED DECIMAL containing dollar amounts (positive & negative) to be FTP'd to our Oracle server for processing into ASCII.

Basically all I need is to insert a decimal, and be able to determine if the value is negative!!!

SFF seems to be best method for this other than writing a program for a simple extract. But I'm trying to find some answers.

1. can it output decimals ?
2. can I only output negative signs ?

George

SFF is an input format. So is PD. DFSORT can convert a value in any input format to many different types of output formats including lots of different output formats with decimal points and blank for a positive sign, so the answer to both your questions is yes. See the following for more information:

www.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/software/sort/mvs/beyond_sorting/online/srtmboft.html#oed

www.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/software/sort/mvs/beyond_sorting/online/srtmboft.html#ocv

I think the first one (editing) is more relevant to what you want to do.

If you need more specific help with the exact editing masks to use or anything else you want to do with the data, show me an example of your input fields and what exactly you want the output to look like.
