all 10 records have one common field which identifies the record type and in which layout it should show.
you set that field value in xref. for each record layout .
file-aid automatically show each record in perticular layout.
it is possible in 'fmt' only .. not in 'vfmt' |

Hi Prasad,
you have to set a base for each of the record layouts(ie., a default value has to be given for one variable in the record layout). Say you have 10 record layouts, you have to set bases for each of them separately.
In the example attached, I've 3 record layouts and I set base for each of them.

Hi Narmadha,
How to get into the screen u have mentioned?
i have entered into Option 7--XREF.
when i enter i am getting the foll screen only.
Specify Cross Reference Dataset to be Created or Edited:
XREF dataset name ==
Member name ===> (Blank or pattern for member list)
Specify Record Layout Information:
Record layout dataset ===>
So can u please explain me in detail? bcoz i don't know abt this option.
Thanks,

Dear Megalai,
yeah u r right, u'll get the screen that asks for the record layout dataset and XREF member for the same. If you are creating an XREF for a record layout for the first time, then provide the dataset name in which your record layout member resides in the following option
Specify Record Layout Information:
Record layout dataset ===>
You have to provide the dataset in which u need the XREF to be created in the following option
Specify Cross Reference Dataset to be Created or Edited:
XREF dataset name ==
Member name ===> (Blank or pattern for member list)
Give any member name against the Member name option. The XREF for the record layout is created in this member. You can view the XREF member once it is created inside the XREF dataset name you provided.
In my previous example, I assumed that the xref is already created and I just set base for the different record layouts.
