I tried to set up a new dataset. I allocated a pds. But When I tried up its 10 members. I always got a message "duplicate dataset name". I set up PDS by intering 3.2.
What is the problems? Where do i have to set? |

Hi,
Can you describe your problem more precisely?
Are you able to create atleast a single member?

Thanks, Pankajayee:
I entered 3.2 on OS/390 to allocate a new dataset.
I put option "A", and put the dataset name like" mimi(dat1);
So, the first allocate is ok.
but when I tried to allocate "mimi(dat2)", it show " duplicate data set names"
Thank you very much
Mimi

Hi MiMI,
When you specify the disp when you create a member after the PDS was allocated, you use disp=shr (or old) not new. The disp refers to the dataset not the member. |

Hi MiMi,
Use option 3.2 only to allocate an 'empty' PDS - so don't supply a member name.
Members are added with option 2 (Edit) by supplying the member name.
When you allocate your PDS you should have some idea about the number of members you're going to add, because this number you use to decide how many directory blocks are needed. Each directory block can hold approximately 22 members without ISPF status information or 12 members with status information (date created, date changed, number of lines, userid).
If you're using DFSMS you might want to create a PDS/E (DSNTYPE=LIBRARY). Then you don't have to bother about the number of members you're going to add.
It's also a good idea to use PDS/E when you're doing a lot of changes to your members, because an 'old-fashioned' PDS needs to be compressed from time to time. A PDS/E never needs to be compressed.
Hope this will help,
Regards,
Leon |

Hi,
I agree with Leon.
Please follow him.
While creating the PDS through 3.2, create it as empty what is expected.
Thanx |
