Region Parameter........

What is the significance of Region Parameter on Job Card ?

Hi,

Region is a keyword param to the job card ...u can use this param in the step as well....this is to set the spaces for your job or step...

two kinds of region params are there ....u can specify region=nk or nm
here n is the number of bytes if it is K, n millionbytes if it is M, if u left this region param in ur job card all the available spaces will be set to your job.

Hi Gautam

Region is a key word as our friend Jumar mentioned.

When u execute any program u need to load that program. So JCL tells MVS to load the program in its memory. In MVS we have three stage memory. Only third stage memory is used by us the rest two are reserved for system sub routines...

When u mention the region parameter Jcl will tell MVS to provide the required memory.
If u r running any big program and facing any region abend then mention the following in the Job or Step

REGION=0M
OR
REGION=0K

This will give the maximum region available to u r program.

One more thing regarding region parameter,As per imran told he is right,
but i have faced the problem in region parameter,IN JESYSMSG ,it show that JOB failed ,JOB ACTION LANGUAGE So when i tried to search in JESMSGLOG it is region parameter error showing
A REGION SIZE OF 0 MEG IS NOT ALLOWED JOB FAILED WITH JCL ERROR
So in this case i have specified REGION=32M in jobs
