Verify is an AMS command used to check and, if it's necessary, update the high rba of a catalogued vsam dataset.
Verify looks for the correct high rba scanning the dataset and compare it with the high rba registered in catalog.
In this way it can update the high rba in catalog with the current rba of dataset.
Verify it's usually necessary when an abnormal close of vsam happen and the dataset may be corrupted.

I hope in this help... but for more detail you can discover many other information at:

HI

verify used to check whether a particular file has closed properly or not.if not it closes the file.

sometimes the job may abend with out reaching close statement in a program at that time file will not be closed.next time when we are running the job the file will open properly but with integrity check means if you check the file status u have 97 instead of 00.opening a file with file status 97 is not good always.so if we use verify it closes the file succesfully.

thanks
tarun
