Hi Sonia,
Are you trying to refer INTERNAL SORT which can de done using COBOL and EXTERNAL SORT which can be done using IBM utility program SORT or in general you want to know what sort does.
Please be clear whenever you post your query. |

I am sorry about the lack of clarity about my query. But this was asked in an interview & I have no idea what it means. I have an idea abt internal & external sort, but no idea abt highlevel & lowlevel sort.
Thanx,
Sonia. |

Hello,
They may have been talking about what is more often call the "major" and "minor" sort keys.
If, for example, you need to sort a "people" file by department and employee-number to list all of the people by department, department is the "high-level" or major sort key and employee-number is the "low-level" or minor sort key. |
