How compiler differenciate 77 & 01 level

Pls let me know how compiler differenciate 77 & 01 level used for elementary variable ..

hi frnd,
i think for this v need to go indepth of the compiler.. k any way as per my knowledge the compiler once it scans the working-storage section then i scans for the level no in that and as per the number it builts the program allocation table.. so it flows like this i think so. if i get the full detail then let me say..
