Hi,

This is my first post in this forum as I have often found my answers in existing threads. Recently, when I have started working on IMS DC, I have noticed that I am getting the errors that have probably not been discussed much - pardon me if I have missed any thread that exists already. I have experience with IMS DB as an application programmer but I am kind of new to IMS DC as a programmer.

I am referring to the book "IMS for COBOL Programmers - Part 2" and trying to create a new menu based MFS. I have used a FORMAT and two MESSAGE sections. There were a few errors that I was able to resolve as the error messages were straight forward. Now that I have resolved the syntax errors, I am getting the following :

DFS1701I SC=04 FORMAT 'XXX1' HAS NO MESSAGES AND REQUIRES FURTHER COMPILATION
DFS1702I SC=04 MESSAGE 'XXXI' HAS NO FORMAT AND REQUIRES FURTHER COMPILATION
DFS1702I SC=04 MESSAGE 'XXXO' HAS NO FORMAT AND REQUIRES FURTHER COMPILATION
DFS1770I SC=16 NO FORMAT SET WRITTEN TO REFERAL LIBRARY. COMPLILATION TERMINATES

I am clueless on how to proceed. I am using MFSUTIL and the errors are in the first step that calls DFSUPAA0.
This is for a testing application and hence I am more or less on my own in getting the things up and running.

Am I missing any pre-requisite to creating MFS? If you could also help me with the steps that I need to take for creating a new IMS TM application from scratch. Thanks much for any insight.

I was able to resolve the issue. It appeared to be because of a typo in the label name used in the MSG set to refer the FMT set.
