I was just reading the announcement letter for z/OS 2.3 (ENUS0217-085) dated February 2017. I notice its planned release date was September 2017. Recently z/OS has been on a 2 year cycle, so one might expect 2.4 for 2019, but I can't recall seeing an announcement, though I could have missed it.

Anyone know anything?

I stand corrected -- the date was February 26, 2019: www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/ShowDoc.wss?docURL=/common/ssi/rep_ca/3/897/ENUS219-013/index.html&request_locale=en

Thanks. Much less exciting - from my point of view - than 2.3.

One of the things I had missed was the intent to finally kill JES3; this is discussed in the announcement letter.

Hum-m-m-...

Just recently I received an offer for the project to convert and transfer existing application system from JES2 to JES3.
I did not accept it, but... - ?

Yeah, one of the things in 2.2 was toleration in JES2 for JES3 JECL statements. And they added something similar to JES3 Dependent Job Control to JES2 in 2.2 as well.

"True" random numbers. Yes. I noticed that, but didn't really think about it. You're right, of course, since true random numbers can't, at least in theory, be created by some sort of mathematical algorithm, but then, .. well, who knows.

Some years ago I wrote a post about JES3 main device scheduler on the old MVS HELP site. I may have commented on other JES3 issues at the time. But that was long, long ago. While I remember my thoughts about MDS, it would take some effort to collect my thoughts about anything else I said about JES3.
