Hi,

In my mainframe system, everyday production files (tape files) are backed up. These are IMS Databases. I created a copy from the backed up tape file to use it in my jcl. I am able to view it in file manager and in 3.4 option in tso. It does have content in file, but when I execute it via JCL, the job ends with JCL ERROR "DATASET NOT FOUND".

Could you please help me on what could be the error.

FYI - I created the tape file with record length as 27994 with VB as record format.

Thanks.

You created a copy of what, the IMS database or the backup tape ?

Do you need to specify the volume serial number to be able to see the dataset, if so it is not catalog'd

Your last comment is damned confusing, it is making me think that you have tried to create an IMS database on tape.

You really do need to sit down and work out some useful information that might help people to help you.

Hi,

I created a copy of backup tape using IDCAMS utility.

Do I need to specify the volume serial number ?, but I am able to view it using file manager.

FYI - I created the tape file with record length as 27994 with VB as record format. ---> This is the parameter I gave while creating the copy of the backup dataset.

Please guide me if I am missing something here.

When you execute what, exactly? Can you show your job(s) that make the copy & that fail to access the dataset?

Garry.

Are the DSNs of the backups prefixed with your TSO qualifier (usually, but not invariably, your TSO ID)?
