Hi,
Could someone please explain me how BWO(Backup while open) works in VSAM file in CICS's environment?
Is the backup taken by VSAM SMSVSAM internally or system programmer takes backup ?
Please explain. |

Thank you Peter. Could you please explain a bit how it works in production environment ?
Suppose I designe one dataset with BWO option ? Do I need to take back up by setting up batch job or CICS itself will take or system programmer can take ?
Please help me to understand the concept |

BWO is an option for a data set -- if you want to take advantage of this option, you -- or somebody at your site -- must create the backup job and schedule it for execution. CICS will not take any backups, and the system programmer most likely will not take any backups. If your site has a storage management team in the site support group, they would be the ones to set up the backup -- otherwise, either your site support group sets up the backup or you (as the application programmer) may have to set it up. If you are setting up the backup, and if you have not previously worked with DF/DSS (ADRDSSU) you would do well to consult with someone experienced in the use of ADRDSSU as there are many options and they can have unexpected consequences if used incorrectly. |
