in one single job we are building two 2 separate date cards in two different datasets (PS). and copying both of them in to different members in one PDS. All these days it was working as expected. All of sudden the data in first member got replaced with data from 2nd member. I am sure we are not creating/updating those members any where else in our shop. This sounds like crazy. It happened only once. Not sure how it is happening.
Any experts to through some light?
Thanks, |

Let me guess. You have DISP=SHR. The two jobs ran at the same time. You got the expected result.
Use DISP=OLD, for the PDS or for a "locking file". Or use a PDSE. |

I assume you must have checked the data in PS files. What is the data in those PS files, is it only a date?
Are you 'appending' the data from PS files everyday in the members of PDS ?
OR you are 'replacing' the contents of the members ?
How do you know if the data in member1 is actually the data from member2 ? It may happen that the PS file being copied contains the wrong data.

In general, softwares and machines have a set pattern of working and personally I don't believe that they can behave abnormally. In most of the cases, it's our lack of understanding that makes us to believe that.
I would not be surprised if later you find out a problem in copying data. ;-)

It might be useful to show the job in question.

DFSORT doesn't work by magic, investigate the source data carefully.

Tell us what steps have you performed to ensure this statement is 100% true?

Then the job was submitted twice :-)
As I said, a guess. Without anything else to go on, what can we say? |

Run SMFTRACE, if you have the capability to and find out what updated the PDS and go from there. |
