While anlaying jobs in my application and came across below questions.
1. I have seen that some of the jobs are copying tablespace and other jobs
are taking the unload of the tables present in those tablespace.I dont
understand the need to take image copy of tables-space when we are
taking unload of all the tables present in the tablespace.
2. Some jobs are performing QUIESCE on TableSpace. To best of my
knowledge QUIESCE is used to gain Exclusive control. But these jobs are
not doing anything apart from QUIESCE,so i am not able to understand
then need. Also there is no UNQUIESCE in this jobs.
Thanks in Advance !!! |

1. Unload and image copies are two different things. Unloading the database or a table has many reason like to unload production data every and use that files in QA or dev region for testing purpose, share the file to any vendor or to a external application, or to just reinstate the table to its earlier yesterday's volume by simply loading the table with this unload file and many more.however for disaster recovery you have a image copy or a snap of entire table space .
2. You could have searched before but here I found for you.

Thanks Rohit !!!
Just adding one more question to my post on same topic.
If tables are no longer used(application using these tables were sunset), is there any significance of image copying the tablespaces where these
tables resides ? |

'yes - if the appliation no longer exists/the tables are redundant then you are wasting resources - DASD and processor |
