Hi,

Suppose there are 6 physical processors in a machine with 2 lpars.
1 lpar is configured with 3 logical processors & other with 5 Logical processors.

Does this mean that only 5 physical engines on the machine will be used at all times with this configuration?

Thanks & Regards,

I'll bump my thread a little with some additional information.

the reason I have this doubt is, we have a box with 5 engines, OOCOD record was added into our machine & additional engine was added. The box has 6 engines now, but the lpars in the machine are configured only with maximum of 5 logical processors.

Hence the doubt. I am suspecting that the additional processor is not being used currently, but when the load increases a logical processor would be added to one of the lpars to make use of the physical engine.

Vasanth,
I don't more than you on this but thought to check on this.

I guess, zIIP and zAAP does not need any manual lookup to do a switch or load balancing.

Btw do you know the threashold when would get the 6th engine be in effect unless or otherwise reached , it wouldn't be in effect.

Hello,
Sorry to be rude, not replying to this topic for a while. I was on a peacful holiday.

Nevilh, as you suggested I issued the D M=CPU command and below is the output. It shows 5 CPU online and they have changed the logical processor count to 5 for an lpar. I realize that I don't fully understand the concept yet & have a lto of reading to do in this area.

Code:
IEE174I 08.16.15 DISPLAY M 521
PROCESSOR STATUS
ID  CPU
00  +
01  +
02  +
03  +
04  +
05  +
06  +I
07  +I
08  N

Rohit, I think the additional processor is added manually, when there is a need via HMC and not based on a threshold limit. I am open to correction.

Thanks & Regards
