we get below message
log file runs out of space, an error message of resource unavailable is returned. which is misleading and difficult to figure out.
AY.ABC.Z000800.EE.CMLA.F1
AY.ABC.Z000800.EE.CMLB.F1
AY.ABC.Z000800.KE.CML1.F1
AY.ABC.Z000800.KE.CML2.F1
These files are used on daily basis.
Is their any means to mointor the amount of space utilized and trigger a message when 80% of the space is utilized. |

You can use IDCAMS DCOLLECT. This will give you the KB used and the KB allocated, so you can calculate when a percentage threshold is reached. |

David, what you propose is an after the fact situation. The TS wants to monitor out of space situations on logfiles, but forgot to mention the origin of the logfiles. Beside that the TS is talking about an error message difficult to interpret. Maybe for him, maybe not for us. And i'm not going to guess what is happening, with this kind of information. |

True. I was just thinkong of running a regular check job, e.g.; once per day, that would check the files and alert if they were getting full. We use a similar approach ourselves.
But obviously it would depend on how quickly they fill up and how quickly they need to know. |

It would help if you included the full message number and text as that will indicate to us if this is from a standard utility or your home grown application.
Also, if you say the logs are filling up then presumably they are being cleared at some point. You need to identify how much data is written to them and redefine them to an appropriate size to accommodate the amount of data being written to them in between being cleared. May also be worth specifying a Dataclas that compresses them and dynamically adds volumes if necessary to allow them to extend. |
