We want to carry out an history of all the Sort or/and Merge control statements used on our production Jobs.
This will help us to remove many same sortings.
I don't see this information on the SMF record 16.
Is there somebody who already had this rquirement ? |

Why do you think control cards would be recorded in SMF records?
You have all the source statements somewhere. You have all the source statements, with translation if required (for symbols), in the sysout for each step.
Might it not be better to approach this in a different way? Find largest datasets, and use your Scheduler to following them through? Then, while investigation what it is of that process that you can automate, you also get some payback from the largest files first. |

do you mean that you are sorting the same files repeatedly,
or
do you mean that you have duplicate SORT control cards?
the last seems logical.
i wrote a rexx that submitted a compare of every sort control parm library member to every other member.
then parsed the results with a rexx, #input1 = #input2 = matches.
after the first run to remove duplicates (and modify all necessary JCL)
I used the 'tool' to run a compare of any new control cards to the existing library.
used the same approach to 'clean-up' other utility parm libraries. |
