Hi,
I'm at a customer which uses Mainstar to audit HSM, and one of the issues thown up by the regular auditing is a number of 1124W VALID BLOCK COUNT IN TTOC DOES NOT AGREE warnings.
This seems to mean that the block count recorded in the Extension 0000 record does not agree with the sum of all extension records for that tape.
Does anyone know what this signifies ? How might this situation occur, and does it matter ?
Ta

I don't know the program Mainstar, and i don't how it occur.
But i would try the HSM AUDIT MEDIACONTROLS VOLUMES Command on the corresponding Volumes.
Maybe you can it repair with fixcds with the audit error. |

You may try,

Also,
To view the list of available fixes, type F next to the error message and press Enter. The Fast Audit Fix Plan Member List
Code: |
<V6 R1.01> Row 1 of 4
FAST AUDIT FIX PLAN MEMBER LIST
OPTION ===> SCROLL==> PAGE
YOU MAY BROWSE (B), EDIT (E), FIX (F) OR VIEW (V) RESULTS
COMMAND MEMBER ACTION TITLE
F1124WA HSA DISPLAY DUMP OF TTOC WITH MISS MATCH VALID BLOCKS
F1124WB HSM FIXCDS PATCH T FOR VOL WITH MIS MATCH BLOCK COUNT
F1124WC HSM AUDIT DIRCTL FOR MISS MATCH BLOCK COUNT |
You can perform additional diagnostics on the errors using fixes F1124WA. Tape
errors like these can be corrected by executing fix F1124WC, executing the
DFSMShsm command AUDIT DIRECTORYCONTROLS to update the CDS. |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
The thing which interests me most is not how to fix it, but why it happens. What causes these counts to get out of sync?. Our storage people reported this as a recurring problem, and I'm trying to understand it better.
The fact that HSM provides audit facilities to fix it, suggests that it's not so unusual. Thanks. |

Does your DFHSM stc get cancelled or abend sometimes? That can cause this sort of issue. |

Hi Pete. That could well be the reason, though it would take a lot of syslog trawling to verify it. |
