Looking for equivalent for L&F command codes in Db2.

In IMS wth L & F we can overrides rules first and here and place the record even if segment has no key or non unique key in it. IMS will still retrieve the first and last record using these.

I feel that kind of thing may not be possible in DB2 while we do insert unless we use some kind of seq # or key and order it for retrieving back.

Any thoughts will really help and if someone has handled it.

Regards
Mags

should this be under DB2 forum?

However, are you doing any migration from IMS DB to DB2? What is exactly expected? I see you can do this by using "CURRENT OF " in DB2 or use a scrollable cursor with variety of options.

Hello,

I suspect we have more IMS users that know db2 rather than db2 users that know IMS. . .

I'm ok with this topic here in the IMS part of the forum, but if someone strongly believes it needs to be moved, i'm willing.

What you have discovered is the difference between Hierarchical vs Relational DBMS methodologies. The reason why IMS has that feature via the Command Codes you mentioned is because pointers are already present and available for use. In DB2 those pointers do not exist. What you are trying to do is possible but you need to design/code for it.
