Hello, I faced with the following two problems when I tried to restore VSAM data sets from logical dump:
e.g. dumped VSAM names in ds SYSU.DUMP.VSAMS:
SYSU.EXAMPLE.VSAM1
SYSU.EXAMPLE.VSAM1.ABINDEX
SYSU.EXAMPLE.VSAM1.ABDATA
SYSU.VSAM2.
SYSU.VSAM2.CDINDEX
SYSU.VSAM2.CDDATA
1) I wanted to have new name (add one qualifier) using RENAMEU:
RENAMEU((SYSU.**,SYSU.RECO.**))
I googled and I'm not sure whether RENAMEU can be useful.
What should I do to gain this? assume that I need to change about 100 vsam data sets.
2) when I restored vsam I got:
SYSU.VSAM2.
SYSU.VSAM2.I
SYSU.VSAM2.D
instead of:
SYSU.VSAM2.
SYSU.VSAM2.CDINDEX
SYSU.VSAM2.CDINDEX
how to restore with the original index and data component name?
regards

Not sure that you can use the RENAMEU parameter to add a level into the DSNAME with DFdss.
You will probably have to RENAMEU each cluster individually. Again not sure about all of the components within, if you will have to rename those individually as well. |

The Storage Administration Reference manual tells you that you cannot change the number of qualifiers in a data set name unless you use the fully qualified name for the old and new names. |

RENAMEU requires the full source and target name if adding or removing a dataset qualifier.
e.g.
RENAME( -
(SOURCE.ONE, TGT.ONE.TWO) -
(SOURCE.TWO, TGT.TWO.TWO ) -
)
The change from INDEX and DATA to D & I shouldn't be a concern. I think D & I are the default component suffix these days so DFDSS has renamed them for you. It'll still work fine. |
