Hi,
We have OPC scheduler installed in our shop. We have a problem in getting all the predecessors and successors for a job (both internal/external).
So wanted to know if there is any tool/client which can be installed on windows and that can be used to generate graphical flowchart for the job dependencies?
Thanks in advance. |

Unless IBM has removed functionality from OPC in the decade since I last used it, all the required information can be extracted quite easily from it on the mainframe, albeit without the colored lights that hypnotize. Perhaps you could be a little more specific than "we have a problem"? |

I assume the TS means that he cannot see successor dependencies in the database and/or he wants to see the schedules in graphcal form.
There are various 3rd party Windows products that will do this for you. Horizont TWS/Graph and APS VisualJob are two that spring to mind.
IBM's JSC may also be a suitable option although I've never used that. |

Hi,
I am not able to find out internal/external dependencies for a job in OPC database. Please let me know if there is a way to check. As shown in the example, last screen does not show any internal predecessors.
Example:
Code: |
----------------------------- BROWSING OPERATIONS ------------ Row 1 to 3 of 3
Command ===> Scroll ===> CSR
Enter the TEXT command above to include operation text in this list, or,
enter the GRAPH command above to view operations graphically.
Enter the row command S to select the details of an operation.
Enter the row command J to browse the JCL.
Application : XXXXXXXX#1 WKLY IMAGCOPY
Row Oper Duration Job name Internal predecessors Morepreds No. of
cmd ws no. HH.MM.SS -IntExt - Conds
'''' STRT 001 00.00.01 0 0 0
S''' CPU1 002 00.01.00 DB2JOB01 001 0 0 0
'''' END 099 00.00.01 002 0 0 0

Application : XXXXXXXX#1 WKLY IMAGCOPY
Operation : CPU1 2
Jobname : DB2JOB01 Number of int preds : 1
Duration : 00.01.00 Number of ext preds : 0
Number of conditions : 0
|
Code: |
---------------------------- BROWSING PREDECESSORS ----------- Row 1 to 1 of 1
Command ===> Scroll ===> CSR
Enter COND command to list the existing Conditions.
Enter the row command S to select the description of an external predecessor.
Application : XXXXXXXX#1 WKLY IMAGCOPY

Yes
As a slight aside, in your earlier post with screenshots, you said that it does not show internal predeccessors. But it does, that is in your example? |

I am not able to find out the internal predecessors for the job DB2JOB01?
where it it shown in the screenshots?
"STRT 001" is not the internal predecessor, this job is dependent on some application/job which I am not able to figure out in OPC. |

Well, that's what TWS says. I don't really see how it can be incorrect.
What makes you think that operation 001 is not the predeccessor and that something esle is?
I would suggest you speak to your scheduling team or whoever in your site is familiar with TWS. |

As I got to know from developers that there are many other dependencies on this job - external applications defined in OPC. |
