in IT using the right terminology is essential for good communications
in other words to get good answers You have to ask clear questions
what is exactly that You want to know
1 - how does a db2 restart work
2 - how to setup a checkpoint restart environment
3 - how ...
4 - how ...
why not do a bit of research Yourself
for point (2)
the issue has been debated quite a few times for the general logic
the details MUST be defined and approved by Your SUPPORT and OPERATIONS groups
so any answer You might get here will be pretty useless |

Hello,
Unless you are the first to implement a checkpoint/restart, you should use the method used by other processes on your system.
If you are the first, you should not go off on your own, but should involve the database support people as well as the operations/scheduling people in the planning and implementation.
Once you/your organizsation have decided on a metodology (if one does not already exist) we can help by reviewing what you have. |

If we try to read between the lines and pre-assume that you're talking about check-point restart -- then you should know that this set-up would vary from shop to shop. You might search this Forum and google you'll get some links but you can't right away deploy them at your shop. So, possibly, you'd need to touch base with someone at your shop, to know what happens there. |
