I am attempting to obtain documentation for the System Exits in use in our shop and the z/OS Admin is having trouble identifying the purpose/use for a major portion of the active exits. I know some are IBM stubs but this seems to be of concern if the admin can't identify what the exits on his system do.... thoughts? |

Fire this z/Os Admin, and hire a good one. |

the manuals are pretty clear about the use of SYSTEM exits
if Your z/OS Admin is not able to understand them perhaps a review of the job roles is needed |

The exits should be defined in a data set (ours has the last level qualifier of USERMODS) and well-documented. If you are starting without documentation and just looking at the installed SVC numbers, it can be difficult to go backwards to figure out which one does what -- hence the need for good documentation about them. The only real way to find out which ones are used would be to review the different vendor products installed at your site to determine which of them use an SVC; hopefully that will help identify the various SVC in use at the site. Using a monitor product such as MXI or Mainview or Omegamon can help you determine which are in use on the system. |
