Hi,
I am working as mainframe developer as 3 years in COBOL,VSAM,JCL,CICS. I have interest to work in CICS.
Can you please share the oppprtunities for CICS developer with good package?
I heard most of the mainframe applications are migrated into some other technologies like cloud computing...few of the mainframe folks are moved into data warehousing....Also i am not much aware of DB2..I know only CICS...Is that will help me in future to get a good job and salary?
If possible can you please share me the companies list recruiting CICS with salary details in india?
Thanks in advance |

The day my bank moves its data storage and processing into the "cloud" is the day I can retire. Or, more realistically, a year or two to the day I can retire after winning the multi-million USD settlement against it for its reckless negligence in exposing my data to every system cracker and skript kiddie in the world. |

Hi Gopal,
You can read this post, which might bring some encouragement to you.

Well, it all depends on how well you answer in the interview and how desperate the company is in need for a CICS Expert.

Even i have heard this, so when i asked my manager "So, What happened ?". He said, "We spent couple of months drawing diagrams, workflows and listing the feeds, outputs and reports. And when we tried to look at the bigger picture, it was complex, messy and costly to implement, so we have put it in the backburners".
Although desktop teams were successful in doing their part(Converted Physical Machines to Virtual Machines). Saved a lot in Storage & Memory.
What i have seen/understood so far, The DATA will be never moved to so called "cloud computing environment". New Application Systems can be built in cloud computing environment but the existing to migrate fully, it depends on the recession factor & risk appitite of the company.

Learn DB2, its easy. Post your questions and doubts in DB2 Section, everyone will be happy to answer.

I heard from friends, CICS & DB2 is good combination. Since you are mainframe developer, you should know,
UI(user interface) = CICS
Programming = COBOL
Storage of DATA = DB2/VSAM

Run the below query, when the companies migrate to cloud computing environment.
select skill, salary from ALL_IT_COMPANIES
where country='india'
and skill = 'CICS';
Thanks,
Sushanth |

I suspect you heard this from people/companies who could make money helping you do this.
Exactly none of my clients have yet placed any databases that have huge volume or need to be accessed instantly "in the cloud". Some have experimented a bit with small things, but are not yet ready to commit to this as their strategic direction.
CICS will continue to be used for quite a while yet. VSAM is good, but i would surely recommend you become familiar/fluent with db2. |

Yahoo,Subway,Blizzard,Sony,Dropbox,Linkedin,barnes & noble,Steam,Bitcoin
And many big names got hacked and private data were compromised. So I think companies would consider data security more important if they posses sensitive data and mainframe does a good job at that. |
