Team,
Our application is uses CDB Online reorg for reorganizing our DB2 Tables on Z/os. Recently we had an issue where in huge number of IMS online transaction failed due to contention with CDB reorg job.
But as per the CDB vendor, "CDB/Auto-Online Reorg provides 100% availability while reorganizing DB2 tablespaces and their associated indexes, with absolutely zero downtime for dataset renames. The design of CDB/Auto-Online Reorg is like no other. CDB/Auto-Online Reorg was designed to not require SORT, to be restartable, to be non-destructive to your data and to employ the most sophisticated automation scheme available. It is very fast and also extremely simple to use.
True 24x7, no-SORT Reorg that does not access the DB2 log. No downtime even during the SWITCH phase."
1) If the above statements are true, why did our IMS online transactions fail due to contention with the reorg job?
2) Recently our application DBA team increased the QRETRY parm in the CDB re-org job from (2000,10) to (2500,50). Could this be cause of failure of IMS online TXNs due to contention?
3) What does QRETRY parameter specify in CDB reorg?
4) What will happen if the CDB reorg does not get lock on the Database?
5) As per our knowledge, when concurrency issues present themselves between a CDB reorg and a batch job, the CDB reorg is supposed to terminate and allow the batch job to continue to process.
If the above statement is true, what caused the failure online transactions due to contention with CDB reorg?
6) What are the different phases in CDB is reorg process, is there any specific phase during which the DB will not be available to other applications?
7) Our DB2 version got upgraded from DB2V9 to DB2V10 recently. Could this have an negative impact on CDB reorg performance?
Please help us in understanding the above questions.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Talking of "disappeared" it seems that Dick and DBZ have disappeared. Hope they are OK. |
