Terminology is critical in IT, where similar terms may mean very different things. When you say "result dataset..." do you mean the source or target volumes (to use IBM terms from the Flashcopy documentation)?
If you mean "target" when you said "result dataset...", you need to go to this web site IBM Redbooks and spend some time reading up on what Flashcopy is and how it works since you have no clue about Flashcopy. |

hi, Robert,
when I said "result dataset...", I mean "target" of FlashCopy.
When I use the FlashCopy COPY command to backup the original database A to target volumes, in order to make the target datasets on the target volumes operational , I want to do below steps:
1. I create a seperate database , let's say, B, whose tables have exactly the same names and definitions as the original database A.
2. I STOP database B before Flashcopy is executed, and delete all the LDS VSAM datasets that belong to database B.
3. when I execute FlashCopy, I choose the volumes where database B resides as the target.
4. after Flashcopy Completes, I START database B.
I wonder if database B will have exactly the same data with database A and can be accessed via SQL statement immediately after FlashCopy completes.
As there is no FlashCopy available in my test environment , I cannot get the answer through my own test.
Many thanks for your advice! |

If you have no FlashCopy in test then what is the problem as you should not have it in production as you do not put stuff into production without testing on the test system first. |
