We are currently migrating our mainframe lpar's with TDMF to another provider.
We need to run the mainframe minimilized during execution of the TDMF (copy tool) quisce command.
We can execute the OPRNTERM command with the jobs we need active before executing the quisce command, but the STOPSYS ALL will then also kill TDMF which is not a SA (System Automation) resource.
We cannot execute the OPRNTERM command earlier as there are too much jobs still running at an earlier stage that needs resources such as MQ, DB2, CICS, etc that needs to be stopped with the TDMF quisce command.
Any ideas as to how we can get around this ? (manually stopping all resources is a pain and will lead to disaster.)
The procedure as we have it now:
1. OPRNTERM TSO,RACF,JES2,VTAM,TCPIP,SDSF
2. OPRNTERM (to check the OPRNTERM command)
3. STOPSYS ALL (will stop all processes except that of the OPRNTERM)
4. Check that all tasks are stopped except...
5. Run TDMF QUISCE
6. OPRNTERM RESET (IPL continues)
Yours sincerely

OPRNTERM, STOPSYS commands are not known to me. Can you clarify that? |

On occasion there is a necessity to postpone the shutdown process of a System Automation resource after the ‘STOPSYS ALL’ command. Normally all the SA resources will terminate when this command is issued (when a re-IPL is planned). With the procedure OPRNTERM it is possible to make exceptions, in other words the resources, specified by the OPRNTERM procedure will only terminate after operator intervention.
OPRNTERM might be an inhouse procedure. |

Hello,
Then whoever wrote or supports these site-specific processes would be the one to talk with.
As we don't use your system, we are not aware of site-specific "features". |

No, frankly this does not help.
Aren't there other standard ways to bring a system down to a minimilized set of tasks ? |

With SA there are no such commands as OPRNTERM, STOPSYS.
So those commands are probably in house SA rexx's. To stop all SA defined resources SHUTSYS ALL or INGREQ ALL,REQ=STOP has to be executed. That will stop all in SA defined resources, since TDMF is not
a SA resource it will not be stopped.
So talk to the SA people how to use INGREQ in combination with TDMF. |
