The manuals for the load and unload utilities that your shop uses -- whether IBM, BMC, or other -- will explain the process; read them. |

Hello,
Kinda pedestrian, but works:
Reload from the image copy (into a testing area). Unload the data into the format you want. |

The UNLOAD utility (not to be confused with DSNTIAUL, which is not a utility), can process an image copy data set in lieu of a real table space. See the DB2 Utilities manual for details. |

Hi Don,
I have no idea Why, but several places i've been are reluctant to work with the Image Copy data. . .
Thoughts? Might this just be an unwillingness to learn a "newtrick"
Thanks,

Dick, I find the analogy between IDCAMS EXPORT and DB2 IMAGECOPY to be the reason..
Everyone loves REPRO and EXPORT is seldom used. Similarly,
Everyone loves UNLOAD and IMAGECOPY is not that common.. |

That may be true, but another possibility is that image copy unloads have some restrictions. For one, the unload has to be executed on the same DB2 subsystem that created the image copy. You also must have Select authority on the table in order to perform the unload, and the table has to exist in the catalog. So, unfortunately you cannot just grab an IC data set from Production and unload it in your test system.
Personally, I like using image copies in test environments. IC Backup and recovery is much faster than unload and load. And it opens up the possibility of using the Quiesce utility to manage recovery points. |
