Has anyone used ABARS for collecting data to be restored to a test environment? I want to be able to avoid having to recall alot of data during the backup of data that will be restored to test on another plex. Found it is possible to divert ABARS backup file to DASD which will help. |

Hello,
What data needs to be "recalled?
If you are going to backup the current/active Production data, it should not be migrated, write these backups on dasd.
Possibly there is something i misunderstand. |

Test environments may be built using an entire month or more worth data of which a good proportion would be GDG's that get migrated by DFHSM, otherwise there'd have to be many more TB's of DASD on the floor.
ABARS also takes TAPE based data, and allows for target files to just be defined empty with the right attributes through the ACCOMPANY list, and defines GDG bases etc.
It also means the target test data can be written back to the same media level (ML1, ML2 or TAPE) to avoid large spikes in test DASD usage.
We already have a process that does much of this anyway, but the recalls of alot of data can be very problematic at times, for various reasons |

Hello,
Foolish me . . . I was thinking of current "stuff" rather than data that has been used and migrated. . .
