Hi Peter,
Thanks for the quick reply. I did get this on google. I'm more keen to know the feasibility of migrating M204 to DB2. Any idea on this ? |

If you search here you'll probably find all that is known by contributors here about M204. |

Hello,
M204 has been in use for many years. The vendor (was Computer Corporation of America but was acquired by Rocket Software about 2 years ago (spring of 2010) iirc.
M204 and DB2 had very little in common. The last i saw it in use (about 5 years ago), the version my client used did not have SQL. The application was more than 25 years old (M204 has been around since the early 70's).
If M204 has implemented SQL it may be quite similar to db2 at the programming level. I suspect dbas and other support people would require retraining.
Suggest you contact Rocket Software as they are probably the best source of info concerning db2 similarities/differences. |

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply.
I have worked in Model 204. Its a combination of DBMS and a programing language(like cobol and db2 combined).
It also gives you the ablity to program online screens similar to CICS.
If you are planning to migrate from Model 204 to DB2, I would say that you will a tough time re-engineering, depending on the size of your application.
Also Model 204 is way faster than DB2 in retrieving and storing data, so you should have performance considerations as well. |
