Hello Everyone,

While issuing IMS extended restart i came across the option 'COLD' which was given here:-

PGM=DFSRRC00,REGION=6M,PARM=(BMP,BR85C,BR85C,,,N00,,,COLD,,,,,

I know and have seen 'LAST' being given. But this is the first time i saw 'COLD' here. Does anyone have any idea what this means.

Thanks in advance.

Could you please explain about this. From what i know is we do a cold restart when an IMS was down during the last global online change and its restart type conflicts with the last online change type or when an IMS was down for two or more global online changes.

But not clear with this.

Hi Enrico, Could you explain about 'COLD' Restart. I did try going through the manuals. They said about cold restart but nothing related to 'COLD' Keyword in JCL.

As far as I know there is no such keyword. However, there may a locally developed user exit and/or 3rd party restart management product at your site that requires it.

I think you may have a step in the JCL that is building the COMMAND(s) to run once the region is up. So the information you seek is probably there.

I found lots of entries regarding cold starts in the manuals, not sure if it would answer your questions or not.

We got the simillar problem in our environment also.

We got this issue, After the removal of BMC ARC utility from our environment. Actually COLD is not a IBM verb for checkpoint-restart.

Please share with us, if you got any info regarding the 'COLD' verb.

Regards,

CGK.

COLD is the CKPTID parameter for DFSRRC00, see :

publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/dzichelp/v2r2/topic/com.ibm.ims10.doc.sdr/dfssdrh2.pdf

The use of CKPTID is described here :
