hi,
i have two sets of jobs. first set contains :job1,job2,job3,job4,
and anoter set of jobs contain: jobA,jobB,jobc, jobD,
first set of job creates gdg(+1), generation. and 2nd set of jobs reads gdg base in order to process all the generations under it.
job are not in a sequence and can run at any time. i cant set up dependency on these jobs.

because of this two jobs can run together and which actually causing contention with above file.

is there any way i can prevent contention without setting up the dependency?

Regds,

Why can you not set up a dependency?

as per the existing process..more than one job can run in between.

say..for ex:

between JOB A and JOB B. only job1 can run one day
2 jobs (Job1,job2) can run on another day ..
or job1,job2,job3 can run in between.

based on the first set of jobs the second set will decide whether to use one generations or two generations or 3 generations.

i did not know that contention will be job level.and it would hold at the begining of the job itself.iRegds,

The contention you are receiving IS what you want.

If you want JobA to process ALL generations, you want it to wait until Job1 creates the latest generation.

Conversely, if JOBA has the gdg base, you want Job1 to wait before creating a new generation.

There are ways to speed things up. For example, Have JobA only be a single sort step that copies all the generations to a sequential dataset and free up the gdg. This will minimize the amount of time needed.

Job9 can be the last and only Job that creates a +1 of the gdg. This can be done with a sort only.
