Hi,
I have a variable block file of LREC=1004 want to convert to FB file. The FB file is already existing. I want to copy the contetnt of VB file to whatever the size of the existing FB excluding the first 4 bytes of VB file. Even discarding the rest of bytes data is fine.
Thanks,
Vinod. |

I suggest you look up VTOF in the manual, search the DFSORT forum for examples of its use. |

Hi Bill,
while converting the VB to FB we have to know the output file LREC. Here I don't know the output file LREC it is already existing and the file size may be less than the input file. so is there any way in sort cards with out mentioning the size.
OPTION COPY
OUTFIL FNAMES=SORTOUT,VTOF,OUTREC=(1:5,length)
but i don't know the exact length. is there any possibility of dynamically taking the LREC of existing file and passing to sort card. |

My FB output file always contains data, but I have to override the old data with the new data that is from the VB input file. while copying the VB input file to FB output file truncation of data from the VB file is also fine(since sometime the LREC of FB file is lessthan the VB file). |
