Hi,
times like this I sympathize with the clowns that do ASAP.
anyway.
we run with all the bells and whistles of ca7/CA11
we had a job that iefbr14 a file as mod, catl, delete.
now we are changing to new, catl, delete.
the file currently exists.
we want it deleted before the next time the job runs
(tonight) with the new disp parms new, catl, delt.
will CA11 auto delete the file, (based on new, catl, delte)
or must we delete the file outsite of the job before it is run first time?
i know on subsequent runs, the files will be auto deleted.
my question is
does ca11 require history to generate the deletes before execution of a job?
if i could have the answer a half hour ago, would be appreciated. |

oh, and if you want to know why I am asking here instead of my site support group?
my site support group will pose the question here first,
before answering me,
because they don't know either.
They were the advisors to the originators of the jcl,
that temp files (temp is one of the nodes of the DSN)
are deleted by ca11. |

Yes.

No Need.

First, CA11 searches in Job Execution History with the job name in execution. If job name is found, the history is referred, else new history for that job is added.
Please let me know if I miss something. |

only the deadline,
but thx, can act on that info.
appreciate the response.
but, there is a history for the job, only the disp parms have been changed.
does that affect the answer about deleting ahead of time,
or is CA11 smart enough to know that the chg in parms
requires a history change?

Hi DBZ,
From the manual,
Quote: |
A primary function of CA-11 is to update the MVS catalog prior to a rerun.
The Catalog Management Table (CMT) is maintained for this purpose. It is
the source of information needed to perform all catalog maintenance
required to set up a rerun. The CMT is a partitioned data set with a
member for each job processed under CA-11.
The CMT is built automatically as jobs are placed under CA-11 control. The
first time a job executes with the U11RMS step as the initial step in the
job, CA-11 creates a member in the CMT for that job. Subsequent updates to
a job member must occur whenever the JCL for that job changes. These
updates can be initiated automatically or manually, depending on
installation options and user requirements. |
