Hi All,
Yesterday i was receiving the DFHSM ARC0909E warning message for JOURNAL DATASET 90% full. so i had brought down the DFHSM and allocated a new journal dataset using IEFBR14 yesterday and started my DFHSM again in the night around 22:00. But today morning around 07:00 again i have started to get the ARC0909E warning message for JOURNAL DATASET 94% full.
Please note that inbetween the time frame of 22:00 - 07:00 there is no MIGRTAION or ANY OTHER HSM activities happened. But during the time(22:00) when i brought up HSM , i did a query command to find CDS utilization, the output is MCDS is 56% full, OCDS 46% full , BCDS 22% full, and JRNL 5% full. I have double confirmed no HSM activity happened between 22:00 - 07:00 by checking the SYSLOG and DFHSM LOG.
Also, in our environment we are not making use of BACKVOL CDS command. if any of the CDS or JOURNAL Dataset is getting filled, We will be allocating new dataset and renaming the existing one.
Space parameters: old journal dataset Space:80 cyls, new journal dataset space: 160 cyls
Requesting your help on understanding the issue. |

Then I suggest that you take a long hard look at the setup currently in place and make recommendations to cease this stupidity
Not taking backups of the most important files in HSM, you are joking aren't you.
What did your company do for setting up the storage management environment, rent a chimp from the local zoo.
You do realise that if one of the CDS becomes corrupt that you could be well and truly up shit creek without a paddle.
I am totally confused that if a CDS is full, you just create a new one. What happens to the existing information in the old CDS. This strikes me as you not knowing the first thing about what is happeneing, or that you probably have the ultimate in poor data management policies.
I can not believe this could really be happening .....
Well, YES I can believe it
I need to go take a lie down after reading this |

For your actual problem, doesn't it sound like you are still using the original 90% full file, even if you think you are not.
However, I'd suggest not doing anything but confirming this. I've not seen expat so upset like that. Hopefully, there is something you haven't explained that will molify him. Otherwise get ready for an interesting day.
Don't change anything until expat is able to bring a drink safely to his trembling lips again. |

But development and testing form a core part of the IT industry, and consumes a large part of the budget.
You are probably least protecting one area that needs it the most.

One of the more pathetic excuses/reasons in use today. . . Management that actually believes this needs to be relieved of further participation.
Many of these people seem not to know or care that the people of the IT group are often the most expensive in the organization (makes people in lots of other departments furious<g>). IT people tend to earn more and there are lots and lots of us. . . |
