when I unload data from partition 6, I found the partition contains no data. In other words, only partition 1-5 contain data.
I do not understand since partition 6 to 22 contain no data, why it takes as much space (12510 tracks) as the first 5 partitions?[/quote]

May be the pertitions were containing some data initially and now it has been deleted. Try running a reorg and then check the space.

I use the same PRIQTY and SECQTY for the whole tablespace, but why all partitions except the 5th partition all have extention number 2?

by the way, below is part of the definition:
Code:
PRIQTY 600000
SECQTY 60000
.

I'm using the virtual host environment instead of a real host.

after so much time You should know that the correct term is EXTENT
the number of extents is related only to the fragmentation status of the volume ( amount of space available in contiguous EXTENTS )

once You ask a certain amount of space You might get it in a single extent or multiple extents
nothing You can do about it, and not a symptom of malfunction in se.

apart the foggy meaning of the sentence how does that relate to the dasd extents allocated to a dataset?
