Hi,
Is there any formula with which I can calculate the $ amount from the CPU time / IOD MIPS?
Even if it is organization specfic can anyone post any sample example calculation.
Thanks

No, because it will be site specific, also depends on the size of the cpu, the agreement you have with IBM, and most importantly the pricing structure developed and implemented by YOUR management. |

Yes I have searched the forum also before posting but didn't get any formula or example. That's why I posted.
I was looking for a sample calculation of any organization/site.
Thanks |

You have to speak to the people who have developed the charging strategy at your site. They and ONLY they can help you.
Extremely simple example, you have used x number of service units, your company charges yyy per SU, therfore x * yyy = charge. |

But of course they may charge different rates for different things, such as batch processing, hot batch processing, online transactions, TSO session levels, anything whatever they choose to vary the price on.
And of course the OS itself uses resource so that has to be apportioned appropriately too throughout the chargeback process. |

You won't find any such calculations very many places. Cost calculations are entirely and totally dependent upon the individual organization and cannot be generalized. Some sites, like mine, treat the machine cost as IT overhead and do not allocate the costs to departments. Some sites allocate in extreme detail, including CPU, tapes, memory costs, disk costs, system overhead, EXCP counts, and pretty much anything else that can be measured. Some sites take a middle ground and estimate costs based on CPU usage and/or EXCP data.
Computer chargeback is not a techincal issue, it is a management issue. If and how the chargeback occurs and what is included is a matter for the managers and accountants of the organization to determine, not you. All you need to find out for your site is whether or not chargeback occurs, and if so what you can do (if anything) to minimize costs. |
