I am not sure if this is exactly a Mainframe question, but just though of giving it a try here as any inputs from the experts around will definitely help us.
We are currently trying to migrate an application that runs on the SAS on Mainframe into SAS on AIX. As a part of this study, we need to estimate the hardware requirements (servers, storage, network, etc.) on the AIX side.
We currently have the data like MIPS, CPU seconds, etc. of the various jobs running on Mainframes. Can this be used to calculate the equivalent processers/CPU requirements on AIX side ? Is there any thumb rule that might help in calculating the CPU requirements for migration efforts ?
Regarding the storage requirements, we are currently involved in collecting the total volume of storage being utilized by the various datasets associated with the jobs that uses SAS. An equivalent storage on the AIX server is the anticipated storage that we are lloking at.
Regarding the network requirements, currently we are having job schedules which involves both SAS and non SAS steps/jobs. Hence, our approach might include an orchestration between the mainframe scheduler (CA7) and the Unix scheduler (TWS). We are currently planning to make use of the SASFTP to read the data on Mainframes from AIX. There would be an expected increase in the network utilization to implement the same. However, we are unclear about what would be the ideal approach to quantify the requirements.

Any help with suggestions/advises that can guide us with our study would be really appreciated.

the wisest thing would be to develop a plan whit a hired consultant!

all the things You are asking for are not something for a quick and dirty reply
are concepts and criteria collected in many years of hard earned experience

the chances of finding somebody willing to share such experience are pretty slim.

May be, yeah.. I am asking for too much on a help forum icon_smile.gif
I was just wondering if there might be any thumb rule in defining the CPU requirements on AIX versus the MIPS allocation on Mainframes and that is why tried posting here. If there is no such rule, may be I was wrong icon_sad.gif

You might try the IBM redbooks, there are quite a few of them dealing with AIX
