Hi Whenever I see a catalog in a sysplex any system, I am seeing three components of it. I know usually for a catalog we have a catalog component and an Index component.
But I was confused abt the third component, The Listcat of the extra component gives the same result as the catalog component.
Code: |
Command - Enter "/" to select action Message Volume
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RDC3CAT LIBP01
RDC3CAT LIBP01
RDC3CAT.CATINDEX LIBP01
***************************** End of Data Set list ****************************
|
Any idea or thoughts about it? I am seeing this strange thing only for the catalogs in the sysplex. |

What do you see when you perform a LISTCAT against the catalog.
Beware - there is a difference between this and a straight LISTCAT, so please reference the IDCAMS manual before doing the LISTCAT operation. |

One can witness this phenomenon on zos systems if the usercatalog is defined to multiple systems and the master catalog from system B is defined as a usercatalog on system A and the MLA is set to greater than 1.
(MLA = Multi Level ALias). It also depends on the search criteria given on the 3.4 panel. To put it simply if the master catalogs from other systems in the sysplex are defined as usercatalogs on the system where you issue the list command, it is possible that all the master catalogs will be searched. |

Yes you are correct. But I was quite confused with what I saw in 3.4
Code: |

Command - Enter "/" to select action Message Volume

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RDC3CAT LISTC RC=0 LIBP01

RDC3CAT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RDC3CAT LISTC RC=0 LIBP01

The issued a Listcat line command for both the instances of "RDC3CAT " I got the same result. Hope that is because the Listcat command pulls the information from the MasterCatalog of the current system.
But the confusion starts here :
If u see the first occurence of "RDC3CAT " shows the In-catalog as "RDC3CAT " itself. why is that so?
Any reference to know MORE about these things in detail?
Thanks in Advance |

I think it's because Usercatalogs unlike normal VSAM files have a self describing record in their catalog entry |
