I am using SYNCSORT FOR Z/OS 1.3.2.1R.

I need to output today's date as part of the data in all my SORTOFxx DD's records. The date is supposed to be 6 characters long in MMDDYY Format.

The &DATE in my OUTREC Statement is coded like so: "OUTREC=(...,&DATE,...)". The &date however, appears in MM/DD/YY Format.

Options? The Syncsort Manual I have does not describe what to do if a different format of date is needed.

&DATE will not support what you want
&DATENS will
It is described on page 2.140 of the Syncsort for z/OS, Programmer's Guide, Release 1.3
What version of the Syncsort Manual do you have?

Oh Lord. Based on the color of the paper and the number of coffee smudges, a really really old one! It is titled "MVS Release 3.6 Programmer's Guide!"

The Syncsort format of DATENS is the same as that for DFSORT.
DFSORT documentation is readily available.
However, &DATENS is not easily found in the DFSORT manual without doing a full text search (namely, it is not in the index, as it is in the Syncsort Manual).
So, I will simply tell you that instead of &DATE you should specify &DATENS(MDY)

&DATENS(MDY) means: Current Date, No Separator, 2-digit Month, 2-digit Day, 2-digit Year

You really need to get a more up-to-date manual.

SyncSort MVS 3.6 is from about 15 years ago. The documentation you are using is missing key components of the product/release you are actually running. Please feel free to contact me offline at alissa.margulies@syncsort.com and I would be happy to assist you with acquiring more up-to-date manuals.

Regards,
