hi,
My monthly job Process flow
it will get files from different sources
it will sort that and will print a report.
The input files which i received are 4 tape files from those different sources.
today it got failed with jcl-error S000, so i changed the output file to
a tape file and restarted the job.
job ran nearly 7 hours and abended with S322.
Please let me know how to handle this tape files and make the job to run fine.
thanks

First you need to provide the output of the failed job for the JCL error to enable us to see why there was a JCL error, unfortunately psychic day was Thursday this week
however, this is something that you should have already determined and corrected yourself.
As for the S322 abend, you will need to talk to your peers / site support to establish the correct job class(es) to be used for long running jobs.
You will need to tell them how much CPU and/or elapsed time had been used to help them to help you. |

You ask the impossible here. Each site has different policies and procedures for tapes and tape jobs -- depending upon the type of tape drives in use, the tape management system in use, which job class to use for tape jobs, and so forth and so on -- and since we do not work at your site, we cannot possibly know the details. You really have to consult your site support group, team leader or coworkers at your site for help. |

Adding to Robert's post, you also have to make shure that the physical tapes are delivered to a site where a suitable tape unit is available, and registered in the tape management system as external tape volumes so they can be mounted on your job's request. |

You leave many loose ends in yuor question: 1. Do you get some JCL-error or an abend -- they are different things. 2. What prompted you to take the decision to use TAPE for the output file? |

siva, why aren't those four tapes copied over to DASD first? Wouldn't that make for a more efficient process downstream? |

Why was the decision made to change the output file to a tape? What was the complete abend info - you only posted part of it. . .
A common reason for a 322 abend is program code that wastes cpu time or gets into a loop. Another is because the volume of data for a particular run is much more than usual. How much cpu time did this take previously? How much did it use before he 322 abend?
As Kevin mentioned, Suggest you copy these files to dasd for at least the following:
To ensure the files are readable before running the actual process(es).
To have a backup - you may even want to copy to dasd as well as a local tape that is manages by the tape system and is not some foreign tape. |
