We need to Migrate from DB2 VA8 to DB2 VA10 directly in other words skipping VA9 for one of our clients.
Can anybody tell me what the implications will be on the applications side.
Thanks |

Thanks Anuj,
but it doesn't really specify what the impact on applications might be, and I really need to know what the impact on applications will be. |

Hi Heindba,
In the DB2 10 Installation and Migration Guide look for below chapters and subsection. It will give you a listing of all you wanted to know.
DB2 10 for z/OS > Installing and migrating DB2 > Installation and migration > Preparing your system to install or migrate DB2 > Changes that might affect your migration from Version 8
Thanks,
Sushanth |

Would be helpful to others if you would update this thread as you encounter different situations.
As DB2 Vsn10 is as yet installed in few sites, you are apparently one of the first.
I expect my site to start generating db2 vsn10 dbrm's in a 'sandbox' situation,
basically to find what new db2 pre-compile error will result,
around 3rd or 4th quarter this year.
Since each release of db2 involves a new pre-compiler
(whether separate or part of the program language compile step - e.g. enterprise cobol)
and each new pre-compiler is 'stricter' than the last,
would be interesting to know if there are any tighter restrictions on Reserved Word usage.
I know that there are new reserved words in vsn 10,
but vsn 9 does not inhibit use of reserved words as column names
when they are not used in an ambiguous manner.
I fear that eventually the db2 pre-compiler authors are going to just
going to fail (flag as error) reserved words used as column names;
hopefully not Vsn10. |

as a follow-up on this discussion of reserved words:
ibmmainframes.com/viewtopic.php?t=52976
problem here is we have hundreds of tables that use 55 reserved words of the db2 vsn10 list of reserved words for column names.
changing the column names is a non-starter.
we are stuck with 'quoting' the column names,
as qualification has problems with maintenance. |
