REDKG will return the first record which is equal to or greater than key value, however, LOCKG will locate the first record which is equal to or greater than key value as well and REDLE can read the previously located record by LOCKG, so what's the difference between the two approach, can someone explain it? thanks! |

Hello,
The difference is that one locates data for a subsequent read and the other actually reads the data. . .
To locate and read in one interaction with database is (was?) a bit more overhead than the locate alone. However, if one wanted to locate and read, 2 interactions with database were needed.
IIRC, when i first began supporting Datacom (1983), you had to issue both the locate and the read. With a later release, the REDxx implementation occurred. |
