Hi,

I am trying to recollect a command. Please help me.

If a job abends which is processing a file as an input file, this file has say 50,000 records and the job abends at 20,000th record. This file has a key field as an Account number of 6 bytes.

Please tell me how in spool in JESMSG or some other way, i will come to know that it abended at 20,000th record and what is the corresponding Account number of that record?

I am unable to recollect, but i think there is a command through which we can idcentify it in the spool.

Thanks.

Hello,

No, there is no such command (unless someone wrote one for your environment or something was purchased).

When the abend occurs, there should be a dump generated which will contain the problem record which will contain the Account Number.

How does this topic relate to JCL?

Thanks Dick.

This topic relates to JCL because JCL was used to submit the Job having the file.

Could you please let me know how to we identify problem record? Currently, i don't have Mainframes access but i am trying to revise all the Mainframes topics.

I've never heard of such a command. If I need such information, I read the system dump, find the buffer for the DCB, and look at the record in the buffer (all much easier since we have Abend Aid available).

It is quite possible that what Enrico provided is what you most need to pay attention to. . .

Interjecting a bit of humor/sarcasm, Enrico was trying to get you to focus on what you posted and how his suggestions were quite parallel. Your request has nothing to do with JCL really - same as his . . .

It is difficult for us to reply because you failed to mention which abend occurred. For example a s0c7 could be researched/corrected differently than a s806 . . .

The next time you are working on a mainframe, you need to learn early on which diagnostic tools are available for use on the system.
