Yes, you would do.
Which sort product and release level are you using.

if syncsort tells
Quote:
OUTREC HAS OVERLAPPING COLUMNS SPECIFIED
who are we to doubt its judgement

if You were able to write the OUTREC statement You should also be able to reread it and count/check/recalculate the lengths and the positions/offsets

But it would be more efficient for me to get someone else I don't even know somewhere in the world to do it for me.

Oh - I forgot to mention - it's URGENT.

Code:
 SORT FIELDS=COPY
 OUTREC FIELDS=(1:220,4,3X,2:108,40,3X,3:148,40,3X,4:206,8,3X,
  5:214,6,3X,6:224,3,3X,7:281,80,3X,
  8:361,80,3X,9:441,80,3X,10:521,80)
I would have a little read of the manual to see what it says about using the nn: parameter, and consider if you even need to use it.

1) find the sort manual,
read and understand for the FIELDS keyword the format of each operand and its meaning
2) examine each field group, keep track of the position/offset of each field and
You will solve the error quickly than whining on a forum

we are here to help, not to do the work You are getting paid for,
describing the steps to be taken to solve Your error is much more helpful than just telling the column where the error is
( at least we hope that You might learn something out of it )
