Hi,

One of our jobs take VSAM file backup(twice) using SORT. This VSAM contains an ever increasing huge amount of historical data (22M as of now).

My area of concern is to tune this job. The EXCP counts are significantly high for each backup step. I would like to know the best approach that can be followed.

My doubts are:
1) Can I use BUFNI and BUFND parameters for optimization in this case(i.e with sort) ? OR
2) Using ACCBIAS parameter would be better (if et al it can be used) ? OR
2) I came across DFDSS utility for VSAM backups and restores. Please guide me on this??

TIA.

Why is it using two steps to create the backups, can this not be accomplished in one step producing dual output.

Have you tried Dfdss rather than just asking. What were the results.

Does your site have a product called FAVER installed. If so, use that. It is probably the best VSAM backup and restore product around.
