Hi,
I am trying to do a DCOLLECT to get info about migrated datasets. The manual says that the dd name
Code: |
//MCDS DD DISP=SHR,DSN=<HSM MCD dataset> |
is required,
Could you please let me know how to find the HSM MCD dataset.
Is there any HSM command that says the MCD name?
Thanks in advance, |

I am new to storage concepts so I was asking.
Ya its a bit of pain requesting the information from storage management, for each task they would require business need and other ITIL formalities, manager approvals for the task etc. which would take atleast 1 hour of my time for small info.
Its not storage guys fault or something, our storage guys are very helpful, but the process that is painful..
Thanks, |

running DCOLLECT and processing it' s output is a typical storage people work
if You are in the storage group You should not have any issues asking the <virtually> nearby desk
if You are not in the storage somebody has already agreed on the business need for You to know and storage people supporting You
so again no issue in asking
it is not a forum concern if the processes inside Your organization are painful
and asking on a forum is not the proper way to bypass the rules
if on the other side You do not have an approved business need
why run dcollect, why ask about mcds ... why why why
it is very unprofessional to ask, and even more to reply
edited after Your last post
using information obtained thru lurking and not thru the proper channels
is prone on the long run to get You in troubles
like in this case...
the MCDS is probably racf(tss/acf) protected
and accessing it without the proper authorization will cause a security violation |

I have never asked any questions on this forum with the intent of disrespecting or any other false intent.
This question was to know if there was a command already which would have the required information.Just a know-how.. I don't know how it qualifies as an unprofessional question

TSO command HSEND QUERY CDS will give you the names, but you need authority to issue the command. Can also be done as a MODIFY command to the started task from SDSF, i.e. F DFHSM,Q CDS
Otherwise browse SYS1.PROCLIB(DFHSM*) and see what's in teh started task proc |

Thanks Pete,
I did not have access for HSEND, SYS1.PROCLIB solution was helpful.
Thanks again, |
