Hi ,

This is venkat . I am new to Mainframes so i thought before asking this question i should try google but i was not able to find a solution .

My query is i am unable to copy text (basically anything ) from my mainframe emulator to Excel sheet . As a fresher it is my main job to copy table names names and paste it . I am aware of FTP'ing from Mainframe to our machine but it would be very helpful if i am able to copy and paste directly .

I saw a particular option which said start the services " network DDE" and clipboard services but it is disabled by admin for security reasons . I am not sure what is the real cause .

Any help would be really appreciated .

    1. Are you able to copy/paste in Emulator from one place to another?
    2. Are you able to copy/paste in spread-sheet (excel) from one place to another?

I think you are talking about the clipbook servcie, there is no clipboard
service. And yes those services are most of the times disabled in networks.

Which emulator are you using?

Then please work with someone at your shop to understand what they've used to do what you want to do. I was under the impression that "ctrl+c" was not propery mapped for "copy" on your emulator and if so, nothing from emulator is copied to clip-board if you use "ctrl+c" and so nothing is pasted on spread-sheet.

@anuj

actually i am doing this for a client and for the same client we used Smarterm emulator for a while and now they provided Rumba emulator .

I agree with the part in which you said that while using Ctrl+C in emulator it is not getting copied to clip-board and that is the reason i am unable to paste it in Excel because there is no content in clip board .

Is there any way to make this happen from my end ? Or is this a problem with the emulator ? Do we have any options which can be changed in emulator ?

Please dont think i am bugging with irrelavant questions but any help would be very much appreciated .

I never had copy/paste problems with rumba.

Can you mark/select parts of your rumba screen? And if so right clicking
gives the copy/paste popup screen?

And if you choose copy? Can you paste the selected part in excel, word,
notepad etc.? You have to be with your cursor in the selected text, and
the text has to stay selected.

hi peter ,

that part is the actual problem . after copying text from emulator while i paste in notepad/wordpad/excel it pastes some numbers or some irrelavant text .

So does it mean that my text which has been copied from emulator is not getting stored in clipboard ?

I am not sure.. The chances are while using Ctrl+V the random thing which gets pasted is from my earlier copy in my machine and not in rumba.. Any suggestion would be really appreciated..

So after all, copy/paste is working. The only thing is you get some
garbage pasted.
IIRC there are some options in rumba for copy/paste actions. Try those
options.

If you have rumba installed, your site should have the manuals.

Ok, hope you find a solution.
Maybe it has to do with the EHLLAPI used by Rumba.

Hello,

Suggest you try to highlight & copy something from the 3270 screen and paste it into notepad. What happens?

None of my current sites use Rumba for terminal emulation, but when i did use Rumba, i never had problem using copy/paste. . .

@ dick

yes i tried to copy and paste from that screen and same thing happened.

and i noticed that the thing which gets pasted in notepad is not a garbage value obviously.. It is the value/text which i copied already in my own machine from some other notepad/wordpad/etc..

my sentence formation is not good so please bare with me.. I guess you know what i mean when i say the value/text which has been copied already ( just before i copy contents from emulator ) in my machine..
