for those curious about different dasd types/model capacity and relative calculations formulas
( quick and dirty )

www.bitsavers.org/pdf/ibm/dasd/reference_summary/

and please no, do not ask why the values used in calculations are what they are icon_cool.gif
ask IBM for that icon_biggrin.gif

notice when the 3390 architecture came up

do not complain about the lack of models 2,3,9,27 and similar
from a device capacity point of view the only difference is the number of cylinders
the good old formulas are still valid from a track capacity point of view

Enrico, thanks for all the effort.

Ping times out, McAfee is not complaining, IE (XP professional) is not
complaining (just timing out).

Will try another day.
Have a nice week-end.

the title of the forum is also
Quote:
General Talk ....
Useful informations, Interesting Facts, ...

but maybe it could be a good thing to move somewhere else
( other mainframe topics/sms vsam maybe )

what <bothers> me is that the silliness/stupidity factor of the other forums is sometimes grater than the one found here icon_cool.gif
