All,

IF we use sum fields = None to remove duplicates, does it remove the second duplicate record always?

1000010010000211
1000010010000212
1000010010000213

If we sort the above data based on first 13 bytes with sum field=none wt is the o/p ? is it 1000010010000211?

Hello,

If you specify EQUALS, the records will remain in the original order and the 2nd thru nth record will be duplicates.

Without EQUALS, the results can be unpredictable.

Yes, if EQUALS is in effect. Maybe or maybe not if NOEQUALS is in effect.

Thanks Frank and Dick!! I just checked the job (with out the change ) in SAR.

WER246I FILESIZE 44,987 BYTES
WER054I RCD IN 1897, OUT 456
WER072I EQUALS, BALANCE IN EFFECT

Does it mean automatically we have EQUALS in effect? How come?

Hello,

Possibly because this is the site default.

Suggest you talk with the person/group who support Syncsort.

In a SyncTool Job, use this:
Code:
 //TOOLIN    DD *
  DEFAULTS LIST(OUT)
/*
OUT will have all the "defaults" listed for your shop for SyncSort.

To ansswer "how come" - well, answer is "it depends". If we talk about EQUALS, you've got two choices either choose to have EQUALS as "default" or not. Your site, per the messages you show, choose to go with EQUAL as default. They could also choose not to have that as default. That largely depends on who all were involved during the installation process and what do they think is best fit for the given system and then, they choose the defaults.
