I have a list of HSM back up data set in the HSM format (i.e:- KHSM.BACK.**). I would like to know the original data set name of these HSM data set relates to. I tried searching but no joy. Kindly suggest.

Listing the BCDS will give you both the HSM name and the real name.
An unload of the BCDS will also give the same info into a file.

Storage is good fun isn't it icon_lol.gif

Hi Expat,

Yes, storage is very interesting. I felt hard initially but after that it made me to love. (I hope love involves everything!!! Cry, laugh!! etc :lol: )

I tried to unload the BCDS thru IDCAMS DCOLLECT and checked the below website to check for the HSM data set name but not able to found one record which states as HSM data set name.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/zos/v1r9/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.zos.r9.idaj100/ams997c.htm

Tried to run the PRINT IDS of IDCAMS against the BCDS but it showed as in use. Hence tried the backup version of BCDS but the data looks clumsy and unable to find the data set name.

I have tried to run the REPRO of IDCAMS with the backup version of BCDS but still the data is not clear. all are jumbled words.

Kindly suggest how to get the desired information from the BCDS.

If you REPRO the backup of the BCDS into a flat file, then the HSM name should be in pos 1 and the real name in pos 65 of each record.

Hi Expat,

I am sorry to bug you.

I've tried to do a repro to a flat file but giving the o/p like below in the flat file.

,,,,,,e,,,,,,,,,Á,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,B,,,,,,,,,APL195,\,,8,,¨ã",J×,,¶mw
,,,,,,%,,,,,,,,,<,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,B,,,,,,,,,APL344,\,,8,,A,¿þÎ,!B[,à
,,,,,,¡,,,,,,,,,«,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,B,,,,,,,,,CMDA15,\,,8,,Fc,+Å>,ñ¾,ì
,,,,,,æ,,,,,,,,,@,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,D,,,,,,,,,CMD109,\,,8,,¨,,,¬Ú-Þ1¿õC

I am using the below JCL

//BCDSLIST EXEC PGM=IDCAMS
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//INDD1 DD DSN=HSM.BCDS.BACKUP.D0008682,DISP=SHR
//OUTDD1 DD DSN=OSG.AS.BCDS.LIST,
// DISP=(,CATLG,DELETE),
// SPACE=(CYL,(100,100),RLSE),
// DCB=(RECFM=VB,LRECL=27994,BLKSIZE=27998)
//SYSIN DD *
REPRO INFILE(INDD1) OUTFILE(OUTDD1)
/*

Kindly suggest.

Methinks that you may find that the dataset you are using may be in DFdss format, depending on your HSM definitions.

Have you read the IDCAMS manual to see the parameter, I think, that you could use to REPRO the current BCDS to a flat, which bypasses RLS allocation.

If not, then you may have to perform a recovery of the BCDS from the backup, obviously to a new name icon_lol.gif , and then repro the recovered BCDS to a flat file.

Thanks for your suggestion.

The REPRO didn't help me to find the data set names from the BACKUP version of BCDS.

I've tried to do the PRINT IDS(backup version) CHARACTER in batch and it did worked for me.

My issue has been resolved. Thanks a lot.
